Hi all,we are on the llangollen but thinking of checking out the Montgomery canal on the way up, does anyone know of any restrictions on the Montgomery, it says in my Nicholson that the locks at the start of the canal are only open certain times of the day,but my Nicholson guide is very old and wondered if this was still the case,many thanks in advance

They need booking the day before, by phoning up CRT customer services 0303 040 4040

As above , you need to book passage through the locks, both ways. This can be done on line.

I think they can only be booked for something like 09:00 to 12:00, closed outside these hours and you need to book both directions at the same time.

The opening times have changed, it is now in the morning.  If you log onto the CRT licensing site and go the my bookings/make a booking, to book your passage which must be done the day before at least.

 

It is well worth the trip, and you really want to have two nights if you can spare the time.
