Am having to downsize to a flat and that means losing the garage.

Have just unearthed from the back of the garage this Paloma still in it's original box.

It was bought at the Ladyline chandlery in Thorne about 1976 or 1977 for my fitting out project which was on blocks as the gatekeeper to Stanilands yard.  The fitout never got beyond lining out before I gave up and sold it on.

The heater has been in storage ever since.

Question - is this heater legally useable and therefore still worth something to someone?

I would think not as regulations have moved on tremendously.

I was about to to just dump it (at our local recycling centre) when I thought it might be worth asking the question.

What does the forum think?

Blimey no, don't dump it!!!! Best water heater ever made!

The only reason not to use it would be the doubtful wisdom of fitting it as designed, in a flueless format. Latterly there was a flue hood flue attachment kit.  Does yours have that too perchance?

There are plenty of them still in use today, someone would love it for spares if not as a new installation. Well I'd find a home for it if it turns out no-one else needs it.

No flue kit just the heater itself sat between top and bottom moulded polystyrene packaging in it's original box.

Will post a picture tomorrow.

So don't go doing anything drastic before you see it you two!

Wouldn’t mind it either 🤣 as annoyingly ours has just started to have difficulties with the pilot light going out and seemingly not lit from the top of the pilot. I suspect it just needs a clean but haven’t opened it up to take a look.

Pushing the side button did help for a couple of days but still didn’t have the pilot burn well.

Pretty sure there is a gauze dust filter under the pilot burner. Yours might need cleaning if you haven't done it for a while.

Do you feel lucky, punk?

(I think that's what I have to say here, or summink....)

I can't find my smartgauge. I have changed my weapon of choice to Occam's razor, so I don't need any luck at all. I'm also bringing along Schrodingers cat as my second.

Well in that case as you're gonna cheat and bring your Schrodinger's cat, I'm bringing along some mates who are "Schrodinger's Immigrants". You know about these? Immigrants who come over here, claim all our benefits and take all our jobs....

Just as I suspected. A no show. I claim my prize by virtue of the fact no one but me and Shrodinger's dog showed up. I was however hiding behind a tree, so can't be 100% sure.

Huh. I was gonna post the same. I'm here, where are you? I was gonna take your blood pressure with my manomenter, after finishing my pavlova.

There was a short-lived hire company - Admiral Line - based in the Packet Boat Lane stabling area now known as The Turning Point at Cowley on the GU, late 1960s early 70s.  They built and fitted there own hire craft from very thin (by today's standards) steel. Probably 3/16ths with a very shallow V hull with two fin keels to retain directional stability as they had very little draught.  The other innovation was that the power plants were BMC A series converted to LPG and driving an outdrive similar to the Enfield.

The engine, outdrive and gas bottles were in a separate self contained flat bottomed tank that floated up to and was bolted to the accommodation module.  So on turnaround days if an engine needed attention the tank was unbolted and a spare attached.

I put an air-cooled twin lister, SR2 maybe,  in with power take off on the camshaft to a heavy duty chain and toothed gear arrangement to drive initially an Outjet unit - not a success- so replaced the Outjet with an Enfield leg.

Some more pics.

And that new home is aboard NB Mr Rusty.

A huge thank you to Chris. It was so very generous of you, and also great to meet you today.

Hopefully when the time comes to replace our one, we will get over 20 years of service from the new one.

Thanks again.

Anyone know where a person can buy a Paloma PH-5-3F Mark V water heater?  Are they still manufactured?  Mine has sprung a leak near its top, and I have the front cover off but can't see how to remove it from the kitchen cupboard of my narrowboat in Milton Keynes.  I have the manual for that type of Paloma but it doesn't describe how to remove it for repair.  Thanks for any feedback.  Not sure that I'm on the right forum for this.  Phil

@PalomaBob of this forum is the chap to fix it.

As for getting it out, Ithink pictures are needed.  At ths simplest level there are one gas, one flue and two eater connections to remove.  You get at those by removing the front cover- pull off the two control  knobs and remove the two knurled plastic headed screws, one either side then lift and pull to get the front off.

The mounting screws etc are then visible .

The mounting screws can be quite hard to find or remove. Ours had 4 and eventually we asked a gas engineer to remove and refit as two screws were too tightly behind the workings. It wasn’t too expensive. It works brilliantly now after @Paloma Bob sorted it out.
