I don't remember Springer front decks being at that angle to the cabins either.

It's not a Springer is it? Look at those handrails.

Also looking at the first photo, there is some hefty-looking black strapping or webbing wrapped around the whole of the boat at the front of the cabin. Could it have been put there to deal with some sort of major hull problem before the sinking perhaps?

The hull is a Springer, or a copy.  The steel cabin is not.  Probably originated as one of Sam's hull only boats with the purchaser adding a wooden top which has since been replaced by a steel one.   From the pictures it seems possible that the stellar cabin is actually an overclad of the woodwork.

Is it my eyesight or has it got two chimneys suggesting a cut and shut . Orr is one a vent? Hard to tell on my phone

One chimney is for a Morco water heater, I reckon.

Ok thanks. I should have liked at the photo on my  pc and not my phone . I now see that it looks more like a vent than a chimney.

Some of the over plating I recently took off was almost paper thin in places.

I’m sure it could have lasted longer before disintegrating, but if I’d hit something it would have easily pierced and the boat would have sank.

Glad to see she was still afloat when we passed her at Streethay

That's what bilge pumps are for!

But more seriously, I think some (or a lot) of your overplating was only 3mm in the first place.

Think steel top with wooden ends more likely.

Or not welded anyhow

Lutine's bulkheads could easily have dropped like that as they only reached the cabin floor not the base plate - through bilge. In Lutine's case the cabin moving significantly would certainly have caused it - GRP cabin on a steel hull.

Ha, yes, a couple of nights afloat now.

But so dirty

It was 6 weeks at least in the shed and it’s horribly dirty.
Dirty and stained enough that I’ll have to repaint the top.
And it’s gonna take several days to spring clean inside.

but hey Ho, at least I’m back on the water and can start me travels again.

Yes it was only 3mm

but there were parts where the 3mm was still 3mm and strong.
The bits that were paper thin was because of rusting from the inside. At the points where water traps.

It’s now 5mm on the sides and 6mm around the bow.
Hopefully will out see me.

Just to add: I believe that 3mm had been on since the mid 80’s

I'd say it will. I had a new baseplate put on mine of just 8mm, using the same logic!

How long ago was that? And did you paint it?

I had 8mm plate put on 10yr ago when I bought it and until now have never painted the base. Very heavily and deeply pitted. I’m hoping the epoxy paint I put on will slow that right down.

That's worrying. Mine was 8mm picked and primed steel, not painted and six or seven years ago.

No degradation whatsoever three years ago when last docked.

Even so, perhaps I should fit a bilge pump!
