Years ago I was helping to crane a boat out at Norton Canes. It was high summer, shorts, T shirt and sandals. I was holding the bow rope as the boat was lifted. The owner was watching proceedings and remarked

” Ah, Dave.....I see you are wearing Nigerian safety boots!”

No hard hat or high vis either.

Only a 3LW. I'm sure someone told me it was a 5. More than enough for the job though!

There is a 5LW on the BCN, in Bernard Hales' tug 'Enterprise'. Probably someone's confused the two; both lovely boats to see and hear.

I remember meeting Edwin F with Ferrous at Audlem, many moons ago. He'd fitted a remotely controlled gearchange and (I think) throttle mechanism (can't now remember the details) and could drive the boat in and out of locks whilst standing on the bank. I also cannot remember now if he could steer it remotely as well, or if he just stepped on and off the boat on entering and leaving the lock. Had a very prolonged chat with him, and found him an absolutely fascinating bloke whose engineering skills were stratospheric.
