1500rpm it will probably be, but I bet the 3000rpm is quieter than my engine at 200rpm, more annoying though.

Thanks all, I’m a step further towards a fixed diesel genny I think, I’ll start looking at possible options.

I don't see why you should be because Solar and a generator perform two different functions. It would have to a complete idiot to assert the amount of solar you can fit on a typical inland boat would provide the same output in winter as a generator
