Spot on Tony, like everything else installing things on a boat is fraught with difficulties.

I pretty much gave up with my fridge because it is far too much hassle, and so far it's not been possible to find a kitchen fitter to re vamp the galley. they are not really interested.

In the full heat of summer the internal boat temperature has the fridge running  almost constantly, very disruptive at night, and goodness knows what happens to the batteries.

I'd be quite happy to have a smaller fridge as that is the only solution without staring from scratch.

It is possible to live without a fridge.
I tend to just use mine (12v) on special occasions. If I’ve someone visiting for instance.

Black coffee/tea is fine

A small meat safe kept low in bildge for bacon and sausages.
Another little box for some cheese.

There are little ways around not using one, I’m sure you know.

I might even go without cold lager and opt for warm beer. 😃

After 10 years my Shoreline with Danfoss compressor started to run for longer and longer. I think it was leaking gas. I changed it for a Waeco with a rip off far eastern compressor and when we sold the boat after a similar time it was still running well. I suspect yours may be low on gas, but it seems few refrigeration engineers are happy to mess with 12V fridges and if it is an old one it seems the gas required is no longer allowed, so maybe a new fridge is the answer.

I'll go against the flow:  I have a decent inverter (Mastervolt) but I'd still choose a 12v fridge every time.  The reason is simple, if my inverter goes pop, I can still console myself with a cold beer.

Good point. Interdependent systems on boats can be a bad idea.

It's possible to live without many things... A boat for example.
