Im a big fan of TPTV and last Sunday on the Footage Detectives programme there was an interview with Frank Muir's son who showed some old 8mm film that Frank had shot. Some of this includes footage of Hire boat holidays they had on the Oxford Canal in the late 50's/early 60's as well as Frank having his own boat built and launched on the Thames and again being used on the Oxford. There is also some shots of the Red Lion at Cropredy. I found it very interesting both from the canal perspective and the famous faces at the launching of his boat

The whole programme is worth a watch but the canal footage starts at 20min 20sec....theres some footage of a converted butty too...but I didnt see the name.

I bought a book BT Frank Muir about his canal travels in a second hand book shop. IIRC it was called "1000 miles, 1000 locks".

Lovely footage thank you for posting. Frank Muir's boat Samanda was bought by Desmond Briscoe by 1965.  Desmond  also worked for the BBC and was active in the IWA at that time. He produced and arranged the Narrow Boats L.P. featuring sound bites of boatmen and canal workers etc. Combined with songs by David Blagrove.
