The River Thames island where secret boat sheds were built to hide incredible inventions - MyLondon

But did you know that one River Thames island used to contain camouflaged boat sheds where the best torpedo boats in the world were once built?

In 1916, secret boat sheds were built on the impressive island, all of which still stand proudly today.

The sheds were painted in green - the same colour as the surrounding foliage - so they could not be seen.

Just a shame that nobody cared about it. Not even the local council. Development is all they are interested in. The councils have to develop a certain amount of houses so as to get their grant from the government.  Those houses pay council tax to the council. So it is a win win to the council especially when money is tight

Being on a Thames Barge towed at 28 knots behind a destroyer must have been "interesting"...

It was not an actual Thames Barge but a specially designed barge. Used to moor right behind it when moored at Platts Eyot before it went off to the museum
