Blocked Burner on my webasto

Hi all,

 

               I've just had my Thermo Top Evo serviced as it stopped working, The burner was blocked and full of a sandy substance does anyone know what this could be? and the cause? I've had the heater for three years from new, Im a liveaboard and use the heater  continusly in winter.

Fine rust in your fuel tank, carried up in the fuel, blocks the burner ?

 

What state is your heater filter in ?

How long since the unit was last serviced? This sort of deposit is common in oil fired boilers and produced in the combustion process, sometimes sandy, sometimes grey. Slight variations in fuel supply cause it. This is why they need regular services.

Its in repair as we speak ( Butler Technik Lincoln) Unfortunatly never had it serviced ( 3 Years), I will now though, should it be done yearly?

The manufacturers instructions will specify the period.

1 What does a service entail?

2 Can I do it myself?

3 if no to 2 then can I do a partial service myself ?

This seems very comprehensive. If things are generally OK, then it is a good guide, but an experienced eye will pick up potential problems before they become terminal.
