Narrowboat Boat Inn Llangollen canal

About two hours.  No doubt other will say it’s a great pub, but it does not look much when you pass!

Further on you have Lion Quays and Poachers Pocket.

If this is a hire boat, then when you pick up stop overnight either below or above New Marton locks, then next day to the basin in Llangollen.

Thanks for that can all 3 pubs be seen from the canal?

The Lion Quays has it's own (off-line) moorings, but the Llangollen end one is very shallow and all of them seem to be the same at the inner end, and from experience the food isn't that great. there.

None of the canal side pubs serve particularly good food, just pub food, the lion quays served basically the same as the others but bung a bit of parsley on top and charges twice the price.

The aqueduct gets fairly decent reviews from the locals but have no personal experience of it

No it's not.  Anyone getting to Llangollen itself the Corn Mill (Y Felin Yd)  opposite the railway station across the river is very good.

The Narrowboat inn is canalside and there is only one mooring outside but ample mooring rings on the towpath.

We found Lion Keys expensive and just had soup and a drink and left. Moorings are canalside or on the jetties.

Always enjoyed a stop and meal at the canalside Poachers Pocket. Mooring rings on the towpath.

Many thanks all I appreciate your quick response cheers Stuart

Ps we are only planning on a short trip from Ellesmere to Llangollen and back over 7 days and any other tips and recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thanking you all in anticipation.

That's a very easy trip, it would be possible to do it in 1 day each way, that's maybe pushing it a bit this time of year, chirk Castle is worth a visit if it's open and Llan is lovely

..possible in 1 day, but would probably not be that enjoyable particularly at this time of year as it is about 11 hours "cruising"......!?

Likely and yes difficult this time of year, I was just highlighting how a planned 7 days holiday was generous for the trip. How people want to cruise is entirely a personal preference and if a 7 day to Llan and back is their preference that's cool

We're going next year taking our daughter son in law and 2 granddaughters 6 and 10 all have never been on a barge before so we are really going to take our time to let them really enjoy it.  I've never done this stretch of canal before so quite happy to go beyond Llangollen.  This is the main reason I've joined this forum to get ideas and recommendations from you "pros". Look forward to hearing from you.  Thanks again Stuart

There isn't really much possibility of 'going beyond Llangollen' its virtually the end of the canal.

You can walk up to horseshoe falls (nice walk, lovely scenary) but boating effectively stops at Llangollen.

But the OP can go beyond Ellesmere on the return from Llangollen and see a bit more of the canal in England, or could venture down the Montgomery.
