Plumber, LPG Gas Recommendations Please

Hi,

The plumber that worked on my boat upped and left, now I have a shower mixer that doesn't work. I need an lpg qualified plumber to takedown the boiler installed on the (other side of the shower) wall, so he can access the shower mixer and change it. At the moment the mixer is producing either very hot or very cold and it won't stay on a happy mix. Might be the installation. Might be the unit.

If you can recommend a good plumber for the job, please get in touch.

The boat is in the Rickmansworth area at the moment.

If any one is available to change the mixer, I would appreciate it, if you can get in touch and we can take it from there. Feel free to text or call me.

Many thanks,

That symptom is usually caused by the hot and cold supplies to a thermostatic mixer valve being reversed, by an idiot installer.

If you can get at the supply pipes to the mixer below the water heater, they could perhaps be cut, reversed again and reconnected, making them correct.  Without needing to disturb the water heater, that is.

That doesn't sound like a very sensible arrangement. If it's a thermostatic shower mixer and you're in a hard water area it's likely to need an annual descaling by soaking the parts in vinegar or some other chemical to maintain it. You don't want to be paying for a lpg qualified plumber everytime you take your shower mixer apart to descale it.

I'm only going by my own experience of these shower mixers but perhaps they're not all as needy as mine.

Thank you for your response, but the shower was recently installed. Therefore, there is no reason for it to have built up scale.

But I do believe the shower was put together in a stupid way. I don't think he knew what he was doing. the only other way for me to acess the valve is by cutting through the tiles on the other side.

if you recommend a plumber in the area I would really appreciate it

If this is a boat that is lived on, then the plumber will also need to have Boat, as well as LPG qualifications on their gas safe ticket to remove and reinstall the boiler. Someone with all these is going to be a rare creature. You may have more luck getting two different people. A properly qualified gas fitter and a plumber. I'm not in your area, so can't offer any suggestions for people.
