Although Bickerstaff claim to have designed the perfect boat maybe now the Foxes have a bit of experience they fancy something with a tug deck, an engine room with a big old engine, a trad stern, solid brass portholes, and no tents on either end. I might even start watching their vblog thingies 😀

Ha ha, you never know, they'd probably quite like a tug style, go off on a tangent and get something totally different from their current one...this should do it!!!

Isn't that Reverie Canal Trading's motor...? What are they going to tow Lyra with?

The Gasometer steel that Sam Springer sourced was probably of a far higher grade than the stuff Aintree use now...there is a reason many springers are still floating with 4mm hulls...and not all are overplated....Its not just the steel though...its the length and design of the swims and how well its actually been welded together....before we start on things like framing etc.

Who knows. The oldest Aintrees are 10 years old so in another 20 years or so we’ll find out. While they are at the lower end of the market I haven’t heard of any particular problems with them.

But for the benefit of anybody coming across this thread in future Aintree do not cut up old gasometers, drive a truck over it repeatedly to get it flat then weld it together to make a boat!

Oh, that's the Reverie boat with the lovely J2, are they moving to the land to get more workshop space? He did amazing things from such a small space.

The Foxes could make 100's of hours of video about looking after a Kelvin 😀

The galley is a fantastic idea and concept, unfortunately, there are lots of unfinished bits on the boat which is why it's gone private sale rather than brokerage. I dont think the price is far off though, lovely boat.

Years ago, Waterways World magazine featured the fitout of their own company boat, Kottingham. When they eventually sold it the new owner had to change the name due to the number of people recognising it and wanting to see inside etc.

I believe it has since reverted to it's original name, now it is no longer so well known.

That's surprising. I met Kottingham when she was going down Cropredy lock, probably seven or eight years ago now. I recognised her because I'd bought a second-hand copy of the book. The couple on board said that they had owned her for several years and that they had tried to keep her in her original state. They even invited me on board (I declined the offer).  So I thought that she had always been maintained in more or less her original appearance and with her original name.

Another Vloggers boat up for sale, which in my opinion is a far better boat and at a fair price in the present buying/selling climate with boat demand. Whoever buys it are getting a far better deal. Just shows how ridiculously overpriced “The Foxes” boat is, what a delusional pair.

Someone else shares your opinion: she's now under offer.

It's surprising that she is for sale, as she was built only two years ago.

It might enhance their programmes, yes - but since (I think) 2018 there have been severe restrictions on installing vintage engines in newly-built boats.

Yes - I'm adding it to my list of ironic boat names.

I'm guessing they have chopped it in against a brand new widebeam, losing a shedload of money in the process.  Cynical - who, me..?

No doubt an episode entitled 'The Foxes Are Having A Tug' would attract many new viewers.

They are selling because they realise they don’t want to go out on the canals and just want life in the Marina at Mercia so they have bought/put an offer in on a 70ft widebeam which I imagine is this one

https://newandusedboat.co.uk/used-boats-for-sale/159

They also say their Vlogs are not about boats now but are “lifestyle” about Living in a Marina. Which is fair enough at least they’re saying boating on the canals is just not for them and not kidding themselves or viewers.

If it’s that 70ft it just show what a ridiculously overpriced boat “Silver Fox” is, even though it’s totally different and would be difficult to move on the canals full time but it’s ideal for Marina living and what they want.

You are always very defensive about them, what value would you put on their boat?

You haven’t just bought a new Bickerstaffe boat called Alchemist?

No.

Why do you ask?

Because I spoke to the couple who have just bought Alchemist and were moving it South, they had a previous boat and with you having Alchemy thought maybe you bought another, but reading your Blog which is good and interesting, I know now it’s not, keep the Blog going👍

I knew that, they love to tell you 'It's a Bickerstaffe'.

I’ve heard through the Grapevine that Bickerstaffe have sold out to Artie Chalmers of Elton Moss boatbuilders, so the Foxes might have a new Elton Moss boat in the next month or so. So they can tell everyone “It’s a Elton Moss”

Elton Moss sounds as if it ought to be a dessert.

I hear that they build (or fit out) good boats though. Do they still specialise in liveaboard boats?

Shells come from Czech republic don't they?   Dunno where they stand in the quality stakes but every other timeshare boat seems to be an Elton Moss.

I thought I was the only one who thought of a rather nice dessert when I see an Elton Moss boat !

I now find it impossible to say Elton Moss, we’ve always called them Eton Mess and now i seem to say it even when trying not to :D

I always think Candle in the Wind..

Oh, I never got that far. I am stuck in the Eton Mess thought process. Shame as they might be nice boats if I could get past the builders name. I have never been a fan of boats with the builders name very obvious on them ( like Braidbar - are you allowed to have one without their name ? ).

If the builders name is obvious you would think they would make sure the boat was "up to scratch"  but I hear stories to the contrary. I hasten to add I have never heard anything bad about Braidbar.
