David Mack
Fascinating! And strange to think that when that film was made Hazlehurst Locks had only been disused for 8 years. A bit of dredging and new gates was all that was needed, but it still took a further 4 years.
Neil2
With all the angst about maintenance and stoppages these days it's easy to forget how fortunate we are to still have these canals. Archive stuff like this is great for reminding us. And Mr Cholmondley -Warner doing the commentary..! 3
Simon Pooley
Thank you for posting that link to an excellent film. I lived in Kidsgrove, just the other side of the Harecastle Tunnel, in the early 1980's and the Black Lion was a favourite Sunday lunchtime destination. We used to walk there from Cheddleton, either along the canal or the railway. Simon.
Derek R.
That part of the Caldon has nice memories for us too, as we viewed YARMOUTH close by The Hollybush. YARMOUTH became our home for the following ten years. Good times. https://hnbc.org.uk/boats/yarmouth

Ogwr
I remember going up to Hazelhurst in 1968 bow hauling the last half mile due to the weed. Happy Days on the then remainder waterways
mark99
I'm currently exploring the abandoned Uttoxter branch. Bits of it are still in water. Edited August 27, 2021 by mark99
