With all the angst about maintenance and stoppages these days it's easy to forget how fortunate we are to still have these canals.  Archive stuff like this is great for reminding us.

Thank you for posting that link to an excellent film.

 

I lived in Kidsgrove, just the other side of the Harecastle Tunnel, in the early 1980's and the Black Lion was a favourite Sunday lunchtime destination.

We used to walk there from Cheddleton, either along the canal or the railway.
