Storing bitumen blacking (Intertuf 16 / Ballistic etc)

Featured Posts

Hi All,

Just thinking about placing an order for some bitumen blacking for my 45ft narrowboat, it's coming out of the water at the end of this month.

If I ordered a 20L tin and had 5L left over, does it store ok for a couple of years for use next time?

Cheers, Andy.

I recently used 2 year old Ballistic that had been stored in my shed. No issues. I always invert a half used tin of paint so that the lid is totally sealed. In my experience this prevents a skin forming. Remember to turn the tin the right way up a few hours before opening. This allows the 'solids ' to fall to the bottom making mixing less messy
