Anglian Water have requested emergency 3rd party works to deal with a burst water main set under the road on the Bridge.

The navigation is being closed at this location as it is unknown what structural damage the burst water main has caused to the bridge. As well as this the use of heavy plant digging on the bridge means it is not safe to pass underneath.

We are working with Anglian water and their contractors to ensure as little disruption as possible is caused and we can reopen the navigation as soon as possible. At this time the estimate for repair completion is 5pm Monday. We will continue to update as we know more.

We realise this is not ideal at this point in the season, however public safety must be a priority.

Too many weeds growing in the gates. Why is nobody clearing this vegetation?

I think you'll find that's a vertical bog garden. Greta would approve. ;)

Im not sure its wise though, surely the roots will penetrate the wood hastening rot? if not that the additional damp wont help, softening the wood allowing root penetration. Greta may not be so happy with the premature  tree felling to replace  😒

Some of the Rochdale recently and the Huddersfield have trees and shrubs growing into the lock walls, as well as the gates, willow Alder & Buddleia especially  and the entrance to the lower gates to a few broad locks in Manchester have become hard to see.
