Boatmans cabin stove substitute

Featured Posts

I have a traditional boatman’s cabin with no Epping stove fitted ( been removed, flue hole in roof / fixtures all ok)

Any suggestions for a replacement stove to fit in the space, prefer a cooker style but any will do.
thanks

Anything would do TBH, just a heat source for cold winter days.

Not a traditional stove for a back cabin: Northern Fabrication Services | (boatmanstove.co.uk)

Brinklow Boats sometimes have access to more traditional types: Brinklow Boat Services ▷ Stretton Under Fosse, Units 2 & 4, The Wharf (cylex-uk.co.uk)

Epping Stove/Cooker £POA | Chandlerydirect.com

If you just want a heater, we installed a Boatman Heron.  Do not run it at full blast unless you are trying to roast yourself.! It is a welded stove so does not have the problems of cast iron absorbing damp and then cracking when lit. So far it is about 30 years old and seems to burn anything, even South Midland Water Transport's extra special stinking coal.🤣

That looks like the one to go for - sold by a very reputable company, and it'll boil the kettle for your morning cuppa too, unlike some small stoves.

I May have to bite the bullet and pay the money, at least it should be a direct fit & look right! 👍

From what I can see in the photo, your back cabin deserves nothing less!

This, of course, when you'll discover that the model offered for sale by Brinklow is half an inch bigger all round than the previous one and has all the 'oles in different places.....

The Epping stove linked looks a wee bit big and have the flue on the wrong size for that cabin. Would it fit? A friend has an old small Boatman he put in the front room at his house. Great stove and even new ones aren't a king's ransom.

The Epping is a very good stove and has insulation inside to prevent too much heat radiation from the back and sides so it can fit in a small space. They traditionally have a very cranked flue to cope with the flue on the "wrong" side.  They cost big money and are now quite rare so unless you really want one maybe get something else and leave these for the traditionalists who really need them 😀

Salamander now make a range version of the Hobbit stove, which might suit a back cabin.

It's about 28" wide so larger than an Epping, but it has the fire and oven the right way round.

In a back cabin you wouldn't want that splashback (which is an optional extra anyway), and you might need to cut the legs down or omit the stand altogether if fitting above the uxter plate.
