Covering pumpout toilet...sorry toilet talk!

Sorry toilet talk! We are currently ripping out or drop through toilet as it had rusted through and have found that it is welded to the boat. We now plan on getting cassette instead of replacing the drop through and was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to cover over/fill the old tank? We really need to ensure that there is no excess water before filling so any ideas on how to do that and make sure it's bone dry would be appreciated too.

Why not remove the old tank, or at least as much of it as you can access? If you leave it, it will continue to rust away - you are not going to clean and paint it are you!

The plan is to remove as much as we can and then with the bit left over to clean and dry it as much as possible to try and slow the rusting down and fill it. We weren't going to paint unless it's recommended to?
