New continuous cruisers needed for BBC Documentary.

Jo Taylor

If you are new to boat living and will be cruising in the East region (Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Beds, Bucks, Herts, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire) we'd love to speak to you.

I'm especially interested in anyone doing it because they can't get on the housing ladder. Maybe you've not even started yet and are about to get trained in how to drive a narrow-boat.

My work contact details are 07342031923 and jo.taylor1@bbc.co.uk

Thanks!

Jo, haven't you posted this same topic before, a couple of weeks ago? We don't encourage duplicate threads on the same subject.

Oh sorry. I just thought if I phrased it differently it might get better results. Would you mind keeping it up just this once?

Thanks,

Jo

That's fair enough, keep calm and carry on!

What is your 'angle' ?

These are generalisations only, and not relevant to every liveaboard boater.

You will get very different feedback from boaters who are living on boats from the choice and - the lifestyle it provides.

These will generally be very positive comments.

If the1st time buyers escaping from the housing market have sufficient funds to buy a 'reasonable' quality fitted out boat at ~£50k+ then they probably have enough for a deposit on a house.

People living on a boat because it is all they can afford, will generally be on lower-cost boats with (probably) not the full range of facilities and their feedback will be more negative (didn't expect this - have to go and empty the toilet, have to move and fill the water tanks, we canot get shopping delivered because we do not have an address, its cold and condensation is making my clothes go mouldy etc etc etc)

There have been any number of expose's in the National Press about those forced to live in boats in the cities because they cannot afford the housing - such articles as 'living on a boat - the truth' and so on.

Maybe you do plan to have a unique angle that you are taking, but, it is looking like you are covering a well trodden path.

Having looked Jo up in t'internet, it appears that she has an interest in people's physical and mental health. Perhaps that will be her angle.

That's assuming that I was reading about the right Jo Taylor. Sorry if that wasn't you, Jo!

Best not to start loking into the mental health of boaters - were are all mad, MAD I tell you. MAD!

I think "individualistic" is the word which you seek.

Spoke with Jo but believe she's mostly looking for people that are still going through the process of buying the boat. There are a few of those on here, and I know some brokers have lists...

She missed a great opportunity to film me completely failing to fix my engine today... the realities of being a newbie continuous cruiser 🤣
