Arthur Marshall
Stoppage today between Harecastle and Etruria - anyone know why? Notice just says "at request of external party", presumably the police.
ditchcrawler
They normally say if its a police incident,
Dave123
Maybe it's an angling association and they want to remain anonymous 😅
Hudds Lad
I got that alert, thought it was a bit odd too as it normally says police incident or 3rd party contractors. Perhaps vague is the new specific?

Arthur Marshall
I wonder if they're knocking down one of the old potteries along there. Edited July 15, 2021 by Arthur Marshall
David Mack
Again they usually say if its demolition or other works to buildings. All sounds very cloak and dagger. And suggests that any 'external party' can be granted a canal closure without giving a valid reason.
Machpoint005
Could it be the re-laying of cables or pipes?

PeterF
Senior politician taking a boat trip perhaps, hence the need to close the canal the night before to check for custard pie and egg throwers and erect the barriers.

PeterF
It is hard to imagine the impact that this would have had on holiday makers during the peak time of the year, 40 southbound passages through Harecastle with nowhere to go, hire boats with only 5 days to do the four counties. Stroudwater1
It must have been Boris or Rishi , now self isolating so cant go boating 😀
