Heartland
It has been said that the original JASON was the first trip boat on the canals working from Little Venice to Camden along the Regents Canal when there was still extensive commercial traffic. In May 1971 the 21st anniversary was remembered for the John James operation and the craft JASON (motor) and SERPENS (butty). Although the JASON then had been formerly the FMC PORTUGAL, acquired in 1958 when the original was scrapped. So where did the original Jason come from.? One can assume that local authorities will be reasonably vigilant about preserving green open spaces and it is possible to protect structures by designating them as listed buildings or ancient monuments “But what can be done to protect a canal” Even trees can be made subject of preservation orders but holes in the ground filled with water seem to invite vandalism- Mike Hanson
Steve Priest
As far as I know, the original Jason of Jason’s trip was built by Nurser’s in 1924 for Charles Nelson & co., the cement manufacturer from Stockton, as Jason ll. On disposal of the Nelson fleet in 1935, Jason ll went to Samuel Barlow in Braunston, and entered the Barlow fleet as Jason
Steve Priest
And just to make it clear, this was not Nelson’s steamer Jason, which had been sold on prior to the Jason ll being built. Jason ll was a diesel boat
