Foggy66
I need to remove and reseal a pigeon box and not sure if I should use butyl/mastic sealing strip or silicone. I’m assuming a sealing strip would make for easier removal in the future. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Tonka
My piegon box sits over a lip which is welded to the cabin top. Can you provide a photo of it please.

There you go. It’s weeping when we have prolonged heavy rain.
Tonka
Can you get to the nuts on the bolts or are they behind the roof lining ?

Tonka
Have those bolts got slot heads in for a screwdriver, because I cannot see that so I assumed they were coach bolts
David Mack
Those are clearly coach bolts (looking like dummy rivets), and there will be nuts on the inside. So its either remove the lining to get at the nuts, or you are reliant on something like Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure to try and reseal the existing. GUMPY
If you can remove the box I would use THIS underneath the flange to seal it against the he roof. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Neoprene-Rubber-Strip-Solid-Various-Sizes-/124045895591? The bolts are socket head (Allen key) machine screws. There’s a small gap in the lining and i can’t spot any nuts on the underside of the roof. Although it’s difficult to be sure it looks like the roof is drilled and tapped. Captain tolleys is probably going to be the first port of call as I’m reluctant to remove the box unless absolutely necessary.
