Greenwich - Westminster, The Thames Nelson Flotilla.

Quote: "...a symbolic recreation of Admiral Nelson's 1806 funeral flotilla, that is planned to be the largest ever flotilla on the Thames."

It would be great to know if anyone planned to go, or, after the event, all about it from anyone who went. Photos would almost need their own gallery!

It largely depends on where we are in September. We are heading for the K+A at present but you never know. Failing that, I've got friends with boats on the Lee and Stort, so I can always get the train back for a long weekend.

It just seems to be a good opportunity and therefore I'm interested in checking it out. Its a pity it couldn't coincide with Trafalgar Day, but then the weather in October wont be up to much.

A gallery can easily be sorted :)

Does that mean that all we need is a photographer? How about putting a pointer in General Boating - "Photographer needed for biggest flotilla ever seen on the Thames - see Events thread"

If I do it, you'll tell me off, but if you do it ...... :)

Reply now received from organisers:

QUOTE

The Thames Nelson Flotilla is a faithful recreation of Lord Nelson's funeral procession. It involves up to 40 barges, cutters and shallops.

The official part of the Flotilla will be policed and escorted by safety boats. Therefore, 'boats following may be subject to their restrictions. The PLA would be concerned if boats not taking part turned up and hindered navigation. Consequently, while anyone may use the river at any time, we are not encouraging people to do so unless they are part of the historic recreation of Nelson's funeral procession - all oared craft I'm afraid.

The Thames Nelson Flotill is NOT an attempt to amass the largest collection of boats on the river, as has been reported!!
