Working Boatmen in the 1950's

Featured Posts

There may be recorded interviews by the former BW heritage staff and in the CRT archive at Ellesmere Port is a good place to start.

As to British Waterways, this was a title for the 1960's as at the start 1950 it was the Docks & Inland Waterways Executive and by the end was British Transport Waterways. There were of course the separate regions and different operating fleet. I am sure Pluto has much to say about the Leeds & Liverpool, but generally it is wide subject and even includes boatmen on Scottish Canals.

As to Willow Wren that is a more specialised topic.

Not "Official Records" as such nor willow wren, but

John Blunn's recollections, growing up on Claytons, working for FMC and Barlows and then on BW maintenance.

I would think Jeanette Smith Harrison is the person to contact.

I have already spoken to Jeanette, she is not aware of any records being held either at Gloucester or Ellsmere Port.
