Jan13
Thinking of planning a trip from Newark to York via Trent Falls and the Humber. Is anyone aware of any overnight moorings between Keadby and Naburn? Obviously there’s possibly Goole or Selby. Or could go to Hull with the tide and double back next day - but that seems like faff. So any others?
Naughty Cal
Nope. The only pontoon on the river is below Naburn Lock.
Jan13
Hmm... suspected as much. Have you done this run? If so, what was your plan?
Naughty Cal
Done it several times in our cruiser. We usually anchored at Trent End to wait for the tide to turn, let the tide run in for 15 minutes and then upped anchor and followed the tide up to Naburn. Pushing the tide for the short distance from the anchorage to the Apex Light at Trent End requires a decent bit of oomph from the engine and prop though. Once around Trent End it is a nice easy run up to Naburn with the tide. You just need to watch your bridge heights depending on what type of boat you have and what your air draft is. We did the run from Torskey so we needed a day with plenty of daylight and two daylight tides to do the trip in one hit. It made for a long day.
Alway Swilby
At the moment Goole Ocean Lock will only be operated for inbound leisure craft at 1 hour after high water ( due to lack of water getting past the Aire & Calder breach site) There's locks available at Barmby and Selby. Speak to the lockies there to see when they would be able to pen you up.

So any others? What sort of boat do you have? Power and speed will affect the planning, so if it is a typical narrowboat it won't be able to punch as swift a tide as @Naughty Cal could in their cruiser. Jan13
We have a Bayliner 245. Quite capable of punching the tide. In fact I think we tread much the same ground as NaughtyCal as we often see her on the river. Just wanted a leisurely option. I suppose making it an expanded trip taking in Hull might be the most practical and offer a bit of variety. 2 hours ago, Naughty Cal said: Done it several times in our cruiser. Yeah - would probably break the journey at West Stockwith or Keadby. We have a Bayliner 245 at Newark and see you about on the river sometimes. We’ll give you a toot next time! Jan13
Ah - was going by your blog when you said you were hanging on to her for a bit. You’ll have to toot at us if you see us. Without a flag or something we won’t know it’s you! Maybe paint the name down the side of the van??
