Alan de Enfield
There was a consultation, some time ago, which was discussed on here, but I have not seen the 'result'. Thank you. That makes it even more unlikely that a 'private' boat is suitable for hiring out. Edited May 6, 2021 by Alan de Enfield

Julianne was one such boat. Does this not happen any more or has time share (which is a fancy term for hire boat) replaced it

Aqua narrowboats do this for one.

Yes, and has been for some time - we investigated it about 15 years ago and they were called sponsored boats then.

When I took a case to the Ombudsman about licence fees for shared boats the renowned Sally Ash thought they were the same thing. She learned. I think. haggis

I think I am right in saying that BCBM is one company that does this. Some shared ownership boats are not managed by a commercial company but rather the boat is owned and run totally by the syndicate owners. My boat is such a boat and is owned and run totally by 12 owners equally. We find it works very well and means that we do not have to pay a fee to a management company. Ownerships never retained a share in a boat once the 12 shares were sold when a boat was first built. This was in contrast to some other ones like Challenger. Ownerships collapsed for other reasons which in my opinion was caused by bad management and over extending their ambitions. I wasn’t sure about BCBM so thanks for the correction. rustynewbery
I had a share in Oberon and then Endeavour for 10 years. They were good years before, as Howard says, over ambition and creative accounting took hold. The current Ownashare is a different model altogether. Challenger Syndicateships director Ed Rimmer served time for fraud; his wife Gill passed away. She was also a director and company secretary when the company went into administration. All details available at companies house beta online. Ed also previously ran Black Price Narrowboats which went into administration in 1987 but now relaunched and rfenamed. JamesFrance
There is what I am sure is an ex Challenger boat for sale at Aqueduct Marina, it has one of the later Alexander shells rather than one of Steve Hudsons but was fitted by Blue Haven as usual. https://www.aqueductmarina.co.uk/second-hand-boats/empire/
