Found the photos - but no luck. What I recalled as possibly being CYGNUS was in fact BALHAM & MOON. Memory fail.

Oh that’s a shame

however I have quite a good stash of pics now. It’s ones from before 1965 with BW colours and before that not much chance as they will likely be black and white.

but hey, worth keeping looking.

I'll keep looking, but I'm missing three boxes of photos just now, and I'm sure CYGNUS is in there somewhere, but it would have been taken post 1980.

Thank you,

anything that comes up will be really useful. Much appreciated.

I have some pictures of Cygnus in (I think) the winter of 1963/64.  She was paired with Towcester.  Both boats were in BW colours but were working for Willow Wren and crewed by myself and my brother.  We were carrying coal from Newdigate to Coln Valley and then down to Brentford for grain to Wellingborough.

I will dig out the pictures that I took and digitise them if you are interested.  I could use e mail to get better resolution photos if you wish, send me an e mail.  My e mail address is delphnine@btinternet.com

Just after the disasterous 1962 freeze I see 😉   As one-time owner of Towcester I'd love to see the photos too - I've sent an eMail. I'm sure there are others here too if you get chance to put them on-line

Hi Duchess, I'm a bit late to this thread, but I saw your boat Cygnus in this photo that is used on public signage at the top of the Northampton Arm. You can probably get an original from the IWA Group.

Hi

its never too late, thank you I hadn’t seen tis one ever it must have been taken between the locks somewhere near the top of the arm I’ll have a walk down there to see if I can work out where.

yes I’ll see if I can source a copy, do you know which motor that is?

Hi, glad it was of use. The image is on the IWA information board at Lock 1 on the Arm so I don't really know anything about it beyond what it says in the caption. If you can track down the original, you might find that there are other photos from the same day in an archive somewhere!

I saw the name Cygnus on the picture and thought I would google it to see if she was still in existence, and I was pleasantly surprised to see this thread come up. You have a lovely boat!

I think these boats are waiting just above Lock 1, the lock keepers cottage and that hut on the off side are still in existence. The water tower seems to be in the location of the present day winding hole.
