we are moored at Sutton visitor moorings and when walking the dog Iain found what looks like an old lock and a channel which is full of reeds but has what looked like a couple of sunken boats. The lock is just upstream of the entrance to the weir stream (on the other side of the river) . We followed the channel and it runs parallel to the river . Did the river change course at some point?

Does anyone know what the lock and channel were for? The lock is about 60-70 feet long and about 15-20 feet wide.
