As the number of stoppages reach evidently a new record, and with lock down rules easing, what canals are open ?

In the days of the private working canals, there would be annual stoppages to undertake repairs, but for these modern times it is called winter.

So as we come out of the winter period there is a growing list of new stoppages, could the reason be lack of investment or is it a lack of qualified staff?

Both.

One problem with outsourcing maintenance is that the contractors JUST do the job specified, whereas the old BW teams would pick up other jobs whilst locks were drained, or red brick a section that wasnt specified-because it needed doing.

It could be that the CRT have signed up to the WEF's Great Reset plan and the 'stoppages' are part & parcel of the plan to reduce travel & carbon emissions.

I'll get my coat (and tin hat).

Please do get your tin hat as there is more on the horizon.

Travelling along the Worcester & Birmingham on Sundays this summer will be challenging as bits of the new University Station are constructed, with only a couple of time slots available in the day for boaters and walkers.

The only good thing perhaps is that the activities of the rogue cyclists are curtailed. It is hard to race through such a stoppage.
