Blacking and Strakes

Featured Posts

We moved home and relocated our 46 foot NB to Sawley. Not moved since Covid. The boat now needs blacking so asking for your recommendations in the Sawley area.  Also the strakes (rubbing bars) are separating from the hull in places and will probably need welding down before blacking. Is this a difficult / expensive job ?

Head down to wards Nottingham , on the Nottingham canal you'll find these folks with a great undercover dry dock (and you can stay on board with elect and water if you wish)

(Normally a 9 month to 12 month waiting list but thats because they are 'good' - maybe the situation is better or worse due to C19 and they can fit you in)

If the rust has got behind your rubbing strakes (guard irons) then either you need to get it all out (usually with a shot blaster) and weld them on fully, or remove them, mechanically de-rust  the hull behind and replace them.  Just welding them up will not stop the rust behind and it will eventually push the guards off again.

Neither solution is difficult, but both are time consuming.
