Confused? I am.

Bridge 57 is Laughton Road Bridge,  bridge 58 is Lubenham Lodge Bridge.  Only one "b"   So where exactly is the bridge that has been struck?

One would expect C&RT to know their own canal.  But then, perhaps that is expecting too much.

I believe that this week they thought Stanthorne Lock on the Middlewich Branch is now on the Llangollen!  You could not make it up any funnier for a music hall farce.

If you look it up on CRT's GIS reference map its marked as Bridge 57 Lubbenham Wharf Bridge. Thats the map they use with the asset numbers on....now it might be that the name isnt right on there but many bridges seem to have several names.

It is indeed the bridge on Laughton Road if that helps.

This is the link to map if it helps

Thank you, seems to be some ambiguity on the location and the spelling too.I never use the GIS maps, don't find them useful.

They are good for getting CRT asset numbers when reporting something to avoid ambiguity...There is one for the mowing regimes too.

Since neither the bridge number nor bridge name match that referenced in the CRT notice, why have you introduced it. Looks like you are trying to confuse, not clarify!

Some place names have more than one spelling, or perhaps local usage varies from what the OS put on the 'definitive' map. Does it really matter?

My records show 57 as Lubenham Wharf Bridge but OS give the road as Laughton Road.

Streetview  also show that from one direction there is a long straight approach and on the o0ther side good sightlines with plenty of warnings to SLOW for the bridge which does give a kink in the road. Someone asleep at the wheel?

If this story is really funny enough for a music hall then it si no wonder they closed down.  Hardly merits criticism for an extra 'b'. Plenty of such typos appear hear as elsewhere - better to get the notice out as soon as possible, especially over a holiday weekend.

Edit to add from Wikipedia:

Attested in the Domesday Book as 'Lobenho', the name derives from 'Luba's or Lubba's spur(s) of land'. 'Lubba' being the name of the individual who once lived on the land and 'hōh' meaning 'hill-spur'. At some point, the suffix 'hōh' developed into the modern suffix 'ham' which is a phenomenon that has appeared in other English place-names.[
