Hireable Boats on the move.

We are in the Cropredy area. Over the past 24 hours we have seen five or six hire boats being moved. Not on hire.

One couple told us they are going to the hire base near Oxford on the Thames. Come down from Bromsgrove. That’s a fair trip.

No doubt getting ready for a very very busy hire boat season. The companies with multiple bases will no doubt be moving boats in line with demand.

So as long as they dont sleep on the boat all ok ....we out tomorrow just take a tent ...so we dont sleep on the boat ...or stay up all night !!

It won't work the rule is to sleep at home. Tents boats caravans holiday cottages are not home which is defined as your address as known to tax man and councils for voting.

P. S. If you are out Monday pack your thermals.

The above mentioned hire boats are the Constellation Class boats of Anglo Welsh.

No doubt their crews have been advised to take particular notice of locking procedure.

So they'll be Lock Heed Constellations.

Only the two dayboats are out round here, no where to moor in town as the council have not evicted the squatter boats on the visiter moorings. So the hirers are moaning about that.

Wouldn't they be in trouble if they try to move them before the 12th, but I doubt they will even do it then

I went for a walk around March the other day, went down by the riverside and noticed quite a few moored boats, both on the public moorings outside the pub and opposite the sanny station. I imagined that they must be frustrated at not being able to move; you say that the opposite is the case, that they don't want to move? It's surprising how appearances can be deceptive. I did exchange a hello with one of the boaters - on 'Lady Jane' - but didn't really engage him in conversation.

The Lady Jane has been squatting on the Town moorings for over two years, as has many of the others. That springer next to the library has been moored there since 2017. None of them want to move. Last summer visiters were unable to stop due to the squatters. The council has repeated failed to take  action. Council Streetwise Staff are charged with inforcement of the moorings, refuse to go near them after been threaten by some of them.  None of the boats have licences either, all are under enforcement action for this by the Middle Level.

If that's so, it's shocking. Of course until recently they didn't need licences, but they do now, so one hopes the MLC will take action where the council has, by account, pitifully failed to do.

If council staff were threatened, why didn't they call the police?

The police don want to get involved, they rather have the Streetwise Staff not cause trouble in the first place. Anyway the Police are too busy nicking people for breaking CoVid Laws. You very rarely see Police on the beat in March anyway.
