And that's the risk any business runs when taking on leasehold premises. There is no guarantee whatsoever that the lease will be renewed when the term is up.

Not strictly true. Business tenants have statutory rights to renewal under Landlord & Tenant Act 1954 (as amended). Not an absolute right but landlords have to show statutory reasons for objecting to a new lease. In more recent years both parties have the ability to 'contract out' which has tended to favour landlords.

Quite correct - albeit subject to a few conditions.  It has been possible to contract out of the Act since 1969 although the procedure became less onerous in 2003.

It was this right that Aylesbury Canal Society exercised when it last renewed its lease with BW.  That meant their move to Circus Field could be at least partly funded by the sale of the remaining years of the lease to the local Council, thus enabling the redevelopment of Aylesbury Town Basin.

"a masterplan for Foxton" is a very worrying comment; I see the locks being replaced by a dry ski slope

Faster and easier than working all those locks.   So long as they have a tow for going up!     :D

to be relaunched as Foxton Towers, the locks will be changed to a bring-your-own-boat log flume. CRT will change the cafe to a gift shop selling all manner of vastly overpriced tat with very very tenuous links to the waterways (see Anderton Lift gift shop as example) ;)

We'd like to meet so that we can discuss his plans and how they align with the Trust's need to raise awareness of its work caring for our waterways...

I don't see the problem — let's face it, they won't need all that much space to boast about all they're doing to care for our waterways. A small exhibition of the smart new signage should do it, and the café can coexist happily.

Or is this a veiled threat to actually do some work to care for our waterways?
