Old Son
I am all set to replace my gland packing when in dry dock in July. Once the packing has been replaced and the shroud repositioned so the shaft turns 'comfortably', how much grease should I then add in from my 'greaser'? I don't want to put in too much but also I don't want to not put in enough. Thanks
BEngo
Turn the greaser down till it is hard to turn. The bearing and packing housing will then have quite enough grease Repeat after about 1 or 2 hours running then revert to your normal practice.
