What is this material on top of the engine?

and I would expect it t be glued or otherwise secured to the underside of the cover.  Many chandlers sell the stuff and for a single sheet that is probably your best bet but compared with what a specialist sells it seem to be of lesser quality.

Got mine from TW Marine at Furness Vale and covered the engine deckboards to deaden the engine noise.

 

Different types are available and I have since topped up the silver covering with a roll of silver tape.

 

I glued it down and then screwed in repair washers to hold it in place.

If it is being used on a registered passenger boat there maybe some MCA requirements that have to be met (flame retardance ?)

Before just buying 'something' from Midland Chandlers (etc) it may worth checking it meets whatever it needs to meet.

 

If it carrying more than 12 passengers then the MCA regs may well apply :
