First Peninsula Marine is pleased to announce that completion has taken place on the sale of Springwood Haven Marina in Nuneaton.

ABC Leisure Group, the hire fleet and marina services operator, has purchased the freehold and business assets for an undisclosed sum.

We spent several happy years moofred there - in fact Mrs. Athy still reckons it was the best mooring we ever had (maybe she's forgotten about the very rough track leading down to it).

Wag and Kay have put two decades of hard work into its development. I hope they make pots of money from the sale and have a great time on their barge (which I remember seeing while it was being built, when we called in there on the way to Alvecote a few years back).

It sounds, then, as if there will be hire boats based there once more, which there haven't been since they sold Valley Cruises some years back.

I would have thought Onboard Energy is a separate and standalone business.

But very intertwined. Kevin from Onboard supervising slipway operations. Some staff working for both marina and Onboard operations. Same cash register.

Kevin was at Springwood long before Onboard Energy started, and also was in charge of maintaining the hire fleet, so I think he's rather "Kevin from Springwood" or "Kevin from Valley Cruises". A remarkable fellow who can just about make engines talk. Whoever takes over would be wise to retain him, if that's what he wants.

Since the Wags are retiring, it would make sense if they are also selling Onboard Energy, though of course it may be a separate transaction.

Always admired Springwood Haven. Rather pleasant setting. Don’t know about the road. Always flat calm whenever we have arrived there.

Good luck to the previous owners.

Our limited experience is generally favourable but they did rather blot their copybook when, after having taken a short term mooring for two or three weeks to go back home, they then charged us parking whilst we moved the boat onwards. No other marina has ever tried that. We did find a way of moving the car elsewhere as quickly as possible.

We stopped at Springwood for a pump out at the late May bank holiday weekend a couple of years ago but it was closed.  Mind you, so was the pub we tried to phone for a meal on the BH Monday the next day.

And the year before on the S Oxford, we tried for a meal on the early May BH and the pub was shut.  Bit of a pattern here it seems.

Yes, evidently they heard that you were coming.
