Hello Friends,

My steel sailer is currently being refurbished in Tunisia. The engine specialist would also overhaul my Newage BMC Sealord 57.
What would make sense in your eyes?
Where can I get spare parts or gaskets?

Many thanks in advance and excuse my English translation ?

Greetings from the German Alps,
Anderl

A company specialising in spares for old UK trucks or tractors is the best I can offer. How you find out from Germany I have no idea. So Nuffield tractors, Austin, Morris, or BMC trucks

Thanks for the quick reply Tony,
Do you have a good contact in the UK that I could order parts from? I have already found ASAP on the forum!
 THX,
Anderl

The answer is no, I don't have any contacts. I am very confident UK magazines that serve the old tractor and old truck communities will have adverts for companies that cab make and/or supply gasket sets and others for engine parts.

Edited to add: this is basically a UK inland waterways forum, mainly canal based so experience of old, large six-cylinder engines is limited. You may do better asking on a sea going barge forum where such engines might be more common or on a motor boat forum.

Ok, thank you very much. I can't get hold of English magazines;-) Which makes it difficult for me to maintain the engine. It's still running and with the right maintenance it will continue to do so for a long time.
If anyone else has any ideas, I would be very happy.

FWIW when BMC merged with Leyland Motors to form British Leyland I think the trucks switched to Leyland engines and later the truck part got taken over by Daff o it won't be easy to find spares.

Do you have Readily the magazine app in Germany? If so that may give access to UK magazines. I know the UK version has a lot of German newspapers.

That's a good idea Tony. I don't know the site, but I will search it.
Thanks for the link to the other forum too, Tracy!
So far I have only found one article on the BMC, which refers to Canalworld;-)))
No one said it would be easy....

But since we want to go on a worldwide trip, it's good to know if and where there are parts. On the other hand, the engine is much too big for my boat, but came as a good opportunity to replace it, according to the previous owner (New Zealand). But that is another topic

What gearbox do you have? I know a number of Sealords were fitted with then BMC DCC which I would suggest is irreplaceable and spare parts extremely difficult to come by if at all. If its a BMC DCB then things may be marginally  easier but not much. Personally I would not go to sea with either of those boxes nowadays. I do recognise you would normally sail out of trouble but a lea shore and either no drive or a locked gearbox is not something I would want to contemplate.

I can't tell you what kind of gearbox it is, but I have a picture of it.

That's good. It's hydraulic to needs to be kept topped up with oil but I can't tell you what oil because I don't recognise the box. The valve chest looks similar to the TMP boxes but the body does not and its slim design reminds me of Borg Warner Velvet Drive but it would have to be a larger one than we are used to inland.

The link is great David.
I can't find it easily because all search engines search the German market first. Thank you very much. I have already ordered the manual.
I asked in Tunisia for a photo of the gearbox.

The label says Self Changing Gears and as far as I am concerned they were the best boxes I have come across.

If you can't' get a true neutral the boxes I worked on had an adjustment screw that allows you to twiddle it so the output stops moving in neutral.

Specifically search with https://www.google.co.uk, when you've done your first search, under settings you can select UK only.

For UK only domains include     site:uk     in the search line.
