What are 'cants'

What are 'cants' on a narrowboat hull. I have been looking at boat ads and this term keeps cropping up. Thanks

have a look HERE and look on the stern at foot level

 

you may get a different answer from a Cockney

Thanks.. now I know , and the list will come in useful in future. The cockneys round here did not know what I was talking about and some got quite agitated when I asked the question!

A male walking along the canal towpath asking where he can find a cant is always going to get some odd looks.

You will also see cants at the bow of the boat as shown on the same drawing
