Stoke on Trent Boat Building Co is now under new management

The boatyard in Longport where I keep my barge is now under new management. Mike Adkins, the former proprietor of Stoke on Trent Boat Building Co, is finally taking a well-deserved retirement after a distinguished career. The company has been bought by the yard's existing workers, so continuity of the business is guaranteed.

 

When in Stoke, Mike had been living aboard the handsome boat featured on the link below, a boat which is now up for sale:

Does that mean the rather out of place widebeam is moving to more suitable waters?

My barge is a chined river barge, not a widebeam; but yes, I'll be taking her to the Thames before long. 

 

(Before he sold her to me, Stoke Boats proprietor Mike Adkins used her as a floating live-aboard on the Trent & Mersey).

They did a great job of gluing some new steel to most of my boat a few years ago.

Great little boat yard! You'll all be glad to know the staff are still the same and the yard is now being managed previous staff members, so still the same great service and skill level ?

I bought a new build 42ft Rudyard from Mike in 1997, a nice little boat and great value at £32,000.   It was advertised in WW and after a call to see if it was still available drove straight there and paid the deposit, 2 weeks later it was completed and we set off up the Caldon in our first narrowboat for 28 years.   I hope he has a happy retirement.

This second boat is now finished and I understand is for sale.
