Boat lift facilities near Linton Lock

Chris James

Featured Posts

Hi I am looking to buy a wide beam that is currently located near to Linton Lock. It’s a fairly new boat but after consideration, I would like to get it out of the water and get a survey before I commit. I am after some advice on the best option to get it lifted to undertake the survey. Any advice very much appreciated.

Thanks

What weight, length and beam is it ?

York is limited to :

Gross weight 16 tons

Maximum length of 45ft or 13.70 metres

Maximum beam 14ft 6″ or 4.40 metres

The nearest for a "Big Boat" will probably be Goole Dry Dock

The covered dry dock can accommodate vessels up to 60' in length, 13' in beam and 4'6" in draft.

Cost £300

Thanks for the info, it’s a 60ft with a 12ft beam. So a big one!

I think you are going to have to get it taken down to Goole (unless anyone knows anywhere else) as that area is pretty sparse for lift out facilities.

We moved our 'widebeam' (23 foot beam) from Hull to Plymouth because no where could lift it, even the Offshore wind-farm servicing catamarans are only 19 foot beam.

Thanks I will have to look at how I can get that arranged before I buy the boat.

Give them a call - I'm not sure where the dry dock is and if it is affected by the Breach on the Aire & Calder.

I know there are varying reports about water levels and lock operations so best check if they are operational.

Is there not a drydock at Castleford?

And one at Stanilands, Thorne.

And Selby Boat Centre have s slipway and haul narrowboats out but not sure what weight or width. From memory it's about 12ft.

I'd thought of Stanilands but surely that is further from Linton than Goole ?

Stanilands dry dock can certainly accomodate 60 x 12

Bit further, and 2 more locks, but not affected by the breach. Though I see Bank Dole is closed.

With two piled coffer dams across the canal at the breach, Goole will be inaccessible from the inland water system for several months to come. Could be six – but investigations once the failed culvert is accessed will determine repair strategies and therefore time scales.

Would he not be coming down the Ouse from York ?

Is Goole not accessible off the Ouse ?

Good point. Time to take my wake up pills! The dock is accessible, though possibly still not to deep draughted ships. Not applicable here of course. Just needs an experienced helmsman then.
