Ive got one of these.  Not the soundproofed engine bay but Beta 43 with a hospital silencer.   People ask me all the time if she's electric.  Passed a boating couple having tea by the towpath and the lady followed me with her eyes and smiled a serine smile and said "so quiet..."  I responded "yes, such a lovely spot " then realized she was referring to my boat.

 

I get the charm of the chug, but really happy to be driving a stealth boat.

Lack of water from the exhaust is very noticeable.  Since she is indirect cooling withe the raw water taking heat from the engine coolant by way of the Bowman heat exchanger the seizing of the engine would occur only after boiling off all the coolant.  That would be very noticeable.

 

Never had a blockage of the intake even when going down to Keadby through a complete covering of duckweed

I agree, but what you describe is indirect raw water cooling, with direct raw water cooling the exhaust hose or silencer could be burned through before some boaters would notice the change in noise. Luckily most modern boats are indirect raw water cooled, and it would deliver clouds of steam from the header tank before any damage was done. Unlike direct raw water cooling where you get smoke from the burning engine paint and steam lost in the exhaust gases.
