A lot of water . . .

NB Alnwick

Day after day, day after day,

We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.

Water, water, everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, everywhere,
Nor any drop to drink.

I've just listened to the 1150 traffic news on Radio 2.  Loads of flooding about.  Lancashire, wirral, Essex....

'It rained and it rained for a fortnight

It covered the whole countryside

It rained and it kept on pourin'

Till t'Thirwell were forty miles wide'

Just read a CaRT notice that the GU is closed between Thames Locks and the Hanwell Flight due to 'High Water Levels'

Don't think i've seen that one before.

What, CRT warning in time, or that stretch??

Unfortunately, I think it will get a lot worse on Saturday.

Just got the Alrewas T&M river section closed message, not that I've been down that section.

Not uncommon as the Trent (which cross the T&M at that point) is quite significant by then and the cross flow makes it even harder to navigate.

Less common, I think was the notice p0f closure for high water levels on the bottom of the Grand Union around Hanwell. The notice did not say but I presume it was from the River Brent which joins the party around there.

We are on the moorings above Cropredy Lock. Levels a bit higher and a bit of a flow towards the lock. You know when it’s been raining a great deal when the water is chocolate brown(ish) from the fields.

It rained a lot yesterday and night.

Another version:

The boy stood on the burning deck

The flames he couldn't stopum,

They blew right up his trouser leg

And burnt his little bottom.

Another version

The boy stood on the burning deck

Picking his nose like mad,

He rolled it up in little balls,

And flicked it as his Dad.

A piece fell down his trousers top

And paralysed his kneecaps

The boy stood on the burning deck,his back against the mast. He wouldn't move a single step 'till Oscar Wilde had passed.

Now Oscar was a cunning chap,he threw the lad a plum,and when he went to pick it up -----damn! I've forgotten the rest.
