Bernie Keith on Radio Northampton was interviewing the owner of Whilton Marina earlier today and it seem this year is the marinas 50th anniversary and they hope to celebrate it in some way virus permitting.

They advertised on the back cover of the first ever Waterways World.

 

I also bought my first narrow boat "Ripple" from them - still favourite of the boats I've owned. That was 2006

Ripple is a great name for a boat.

 

Was it named after its wake or the quality of the welding? ?

Maybe after the boats colour - raspberry ripple?

I sometimes got shouted at by fisher folk "should be called barely a ripple" as I glided serenely past, but she was named after a village in Kent

In that village there is a hoise called Raspberry Cottage... 

 

I visited Ripple (the village) just to see the place my boat was named after

I went to Ripple Infants and Junior Schools..................

 

......................in Barking, Essex.

My youngest went to Ripple (Kent) primary school. There were approx. 30 pupils.

When we were allowed to exercise further from home, my bike ride would often take me through Ripple.

 

i seem to remember that Clifton Cruisers near Rugby named their hire boats after towns and villages in Kent.

They did - Ripple was ex-Clifton Cruisers and that's how I sussed she wasn't named after an insipid wave
