It's a good idea to tie a piece of strong string to each tool so you don't lose them into the canal/river.

Or Vet's  "Up a cows bottom gloves" (if you still want to be able to feel stuff)

I was down the weed hatch last week, I tried a pair of polar gloves, which are like upmarket work glovee. amazingly they were a lot better than bare hands.
