Where to buy solar panels

Featured Posts

The Bimble shipping costs are probably realistic, the courier is specialist, and they arrive on time and in perfect condition, he puts them where you ask, well that was my experience. They are a well established firm and specialist, buying and selling lots of new and second hand stock. It's not a great plan to  try to skimp imho, you could end up with ancient panels, poor quality panels, poor packaging etc etc, look at the big picture rather than the nitty gritty, is my advice. You will have them as long as you own your boat.

There are a few solar specialists in tbe UK who provide advice, and are used to supplying narrowboats, a few quid saved on delivery, nah it's trivial. The waterproof connectors and cables will be stocked by folks who supply boats, porobably best to get them from the same place (in case they are not compatible, lol)

Thanks, all.

I looked at midsummer energy and they could be a viable option.

And thanks malp, I'll check out photonic universe too.

From bimble I'd be looking at £55 + vat just to get the panels shipped, then another shipping cost with a different courier for all the other bits. As much as I want to buy there, it just seems a bit steep.

Hi, can anyone recommend anywhere to buy sensible priced but half decent solar panels please? Currently based in Skipton. Tried Bimble Solar but their shipping costs are a bit steep.

Thanks for any recommendations

P.s. sorry if this is in the wrong section

@Duck-n-Dive is who I'm buying my next ones off ...

He'll install them as well if you need him to.

I’ve dealt with Midsummer Energy for about ten years, since fitting my first solar panel.

Always found their prices reasonable and service excellent.  Very helpful with advice.  I believe the owner lives on a boat.

Make sure you get the right cable connectors,  mc4.  Google YouTube videos on how to fit them.

Use the right tools to fit them,  https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=mc4+connector+tool&index=aps&tag=googhydr-21&ref=pd_sl_59c1ryny5c_e&adgrpid=53949085875&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=259070446922&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2788915078325839652&hvqmt=e&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046463&hvtargid=kwd-302970364201&hydadcr=28153_1821061&gclid=CjwKCAiAzNj9BRBDEiwAPsL0d7Ylg9nGkYiKDsCddB0FwVoEUs1XJAaEmaVpEkGmC9IgGdRr7wN_HhoC4zMQAvD_BwE

Easily worth the £20 or so.

Thanks all for the info, that's given me something to go on.

Even if you end up buying elsewhere it's worth having a look at the FAQ section on the Photonic Universe website if you are at all new to solar power.  One thing I'd advise, from my own experience, is don't go for the cheapest controller, they are typically the least efficient;  go for a (generally more expensive) MPPT controller, as they will get the most charge out of whatever size solar panels you go for.

Thanks all for the help, I ended up switching the order about a bit and managed to get a better shipping deal with bimble Solar. Nice guys to speak to. very helpful.

A few of the other suggested places had since good deals that I seriously considered but bimble had the more ideal panels for my roof.
