There will be a plate on it (somewhere) with model and serial number.

What's that 'bar-code' label under the air filter 'say' ?

Re the gearbox I cannot tell just from 4 bolts showing above the water. There are at least 10 variants that have that 'top'

It may be a '290 Leg' or it could be an earlier one ( I have manuals for them if you need it) You will need to sort out which it is - get it out of the water, it'll be easier to identify.

There are some 80 'special' tools needed (specific to Volvo drive legs - not found in your ordinary tool kit) that are needed to spit down and re-build a drive-leg.

It will be expensive but it is often cheaper in the long term to pay a Volvo dealer to do it.

If you can take the leg off the transom (it needs to be out of the water) and ship it to a dealer it will save some cash.

Trying to do it your self and 'booger' up a part by using the wrong tool for the job can result in much expense as you have to buy replacement parts.

Thanks alan The number on the label  is p95ff 6007  scanning the bar code just brings up a number 39 .

Are there two letter after the '6007' ?

Thats a Ford engine part number - I think, for a '95-'04 model year Escort 'Engine cover'.

It looks like you may have a Ford Escort engine and a Volvo drive-leg.
