Sea Dog
When I recall the power the EA had over the Royal Navy and how heavily they wielded it for the slightest transgression, I'm never less than disappointed by the amount and frequency of pollution incidents on the inland waterways and the EA's apparent inaction or inability to act. Keeping Up
When I once reported a major diesel spill on the Coventry Canal to CRT they just said "that's the EA's problem, report it to them". So I phoned the EA and they just said "that's CRT's problem, report it to them". So I phoned CRT again; they assured me the EA were wrong and were responsible. So I phoned the EA again; they assured me CRT were wrong and were responsible. At that point I gave up! Yep - we had approximately 70 litres spilt into the cut* by a multi-user boat on our water point a few years ago, and that was exactly same reaction I got. In the end the EA said they'd send someone out - who never turned up - and we cleaned it up as best we could, but before it had fetched the blacking of some of our boats. I expect everyone passing hrough thought we'd done it. *Unsurprisingly this is what happens when you put your water hose into the filler clearly marked diesel, and then go below for breakfast. And people complain about marking water and diesel fittings in the Boat Safety Scheme, saying it isn't necessary. Doesn't help if someone can't, or doesn't bother to read them of course. Perhaps it was the red water hose? New regulations......................Red hose for diesel, White for white diesel, clear for water, brown for............................................. Heartland
Time moves on, was any cause found for the pollution ? The implication of an oil spillage is something that needed clarification. Was it due to a leakage from the land or from a vessel ?
