Not sure if that is the point, given all the comments about photoshop etc, but Tardebigge is not taking on water in Gas Street in this photo. It is close to where Mrs Farmer's Bridge formerly passed over the cut by the top Lock of the 13. The Cambridge Street Bridge gives that away.

As you say, an error in the location, it is at Cambrian Wharf services at the top of Farmers Bridge locks, or is it.......

Watch out when he gets to Sutton’s

Filmed in July 2020 so hopefully he's through Sutton's by now. :)

Alternatively he could have gone along the Birmingham and Fazeley or even up the Ashby?

"He was seen up at Curdworth by the old tunnel's mouth
He motored to Fazeley and then he turned south
He spoke to the keeper at Atherstone Top
But he never made it to Hawkesbury Stop

Some talk of deep holes in the Coventry's bed
And some say he went up the Ashby instead
There are stories and theories but for all that they say
Neither boat nor the boatmen has been seen to this day."

With apologies to Dave Bryant and Peter Dodds.

Looked like cross straps popped. If they are both on one side you are stuffed, and butty will steer motors bow, - on that stream would have been hard to get them back over stem post, without backing right off.

Motor probably not heavy enough, tail is wagging dog. On a pound like that you want about a 30 ft plus strap  so the motors stern can dig in.

The Lengthsman's Cottage Stratford Canal was the winner of the Heritage & Restoration Section and would imply that this section is to highlight achievements on restoration. That the lengthsman's cottage includes new build extensions is perhaps a matter for discussion, but if the image of the cottage has been reversed that is another factor to be considered as it does not show even the true perspective.

The same person also had a winner in the Active Waterways Competition and again there is the question of either accuracy or alteration.

The wonders of digital enhancement have become available on a greater scale now, but there is the issue of ethics. Is it right to alter images for competitions? There is a clear advantage to those who have the software and the skills and such distracts from the genuine ability to take a good composition image.

With the 2020 IWA Competition the art of digital composition has overtaken the art of photography and may be it is time to call an end to this  competition.

I've only just seen this thread, but the video of Alrewas is so embarassing on so many counts I can't imagine how they allowed it out in public. It would at least help if the photoshop man could tidy up their top cloths and clean the leaves and other debris off for them.

I see that Nigel Essery has won an award in this years IWA photo competition with an image of the Falkirk Wheel - has it been photo shopped? The judges this were Derek Pratt and Kev Maslin.

Are you suggesting that he would enter an adulterated photograph into a photographic competition? I see Tim had a photo there as well

From the rules

  • Any significant digital enhancements made to each photo must be disclosed. Failure to let us know may result in disqualification.

Having taken onboard last year's comments, this photo has no additions only a declared improved depth of colour in the sky and removal of some rubbish in the water. Enjoy the view - photographer

Thanks for coming back to let us know Nigel.

Were you not even a little bit tempted to add Edgware and Balham in the caisson though? ;)
