That can't be true. The Torygraph web site yesterday was saying it was going to be a winter of severe frosts and snow.

I hope you are right. Its bloody wet windy and too warm at present. We need a cold dry winter for a change.

We saw lots of red holly berries when we were out boating which apparently is a sign of a hard winter.

It always amazes me how plants can forcast the future...

Or of course it may be more to do with a favorable spring and a good summer ;)

What is the consensus of opinion on winterising a non-liveaboard boat (apart from draining down obvious things) ?

Lots of ventilation / no ventilation / a de-humidifier / small heater / remove and store all soft furnishings / cover the cabin with a tarpaulin .... or any combination of those?

We don't drain anything down. We leave the boat with three tube heaters in. A big one in the engine bay and smaller ones in the shower room and cabin.

Have done this for 12 winters now and not had a problem.

We stick a couple of Aero 360 moisture traps in the cabin and that's about it.

We winterised kelpie  before we left her on Wednesday as we have no idea when we will be back and felt it was better to be safe than sorry.  All water drained down, including the calorifier,  several hopper windows left open to allow air circulation and prevent dampness and that was about it. We'll arrange for Halsall to top up the fuel and empty the loo the next time he is in the marina.

Apart from Covid  as there are going to be several stoppages in the area which would limit where we could go it will probably be months rather than weeks before we are back.
