crimping tool

Yes we used to have them at work.

Leaves a castellated ferrule along its length. Not that good IMO.

Prefer this type, gives a better crimp.

I have one of these, it works ok. Its fine for bigger cables (more than 2.5mm) but maybe not for thinner ones, it does give a castlelated crimp and after putting this into a chocbloc connector they bend and weaken. or maybe this is a weakness of all ferules on thinner cables?

The type recommended by Julian is infinitely better for small bootlace ferrules, as it doesn't damage the ferrule (much). For best results, it is worth adjusting the tool to suit the particular ferrule being used, as their wall thicknesses can vary noticably.

Looking at the photographs  (couldn't enlarge them) they don't seem capable of being deployed over a cable such as when using an in line connector .

May be wrong, often am

They are for ferules only, not a general purpose crimping tool.

No need for a tool for most of the insulated types, the action of the terminal/ connector crimps the ferrule on to the wire. Many are designed to work that way.

Personally I prefer to use a crimping tool like the one linked to by Loddon.

Think I paid £15 for mine including 500 cord ends of varying sizes.
