You should be able to measure the resistance on the metering between the  contact and to earth with an ohm meter.

and last time I looked ASAP Supplied gave the expected resistance reading for Euro & US gauge systems.

Here you go:

Typical Values

Typical values for guidance only. Readings will vary from boat to boat

ALL VOLTDROP TESTS

Acceptable except charging systems 0.5V

Ideal 0.3V

Charging systems 0.3 Max but as low as possible

GLOWPLUG CURRENT – per plug

BMC1.5 type 6 amps steady but some now start high

Modern Types Very high dropping to 12 amps when hot

PRE-ENGAGE STARTER SOLENOID

Small connection to case 2 to 3 Ohms

Small connection to motor terminal 1 to 2 Ohms

PETROL TYPE” SOLENOID

Small connection to case 2 to 3 Ohms

ALTERNATOR ROTOR

From slip ring to slip ring 3 to 4 Ohms

RELAY COILS

Small relays 60 to 150 Ohms

Lucas split charge 50 to 60 Ohms

Durite split charge 30 to 40 Ohms

Albright split charge 10 to 15 Ohms

INSTRUMENT SENDERS

Oil pressure US standard 240 Ohms @ 0 psi > 33 Ohms @ max pressure

Oil pressure European 10 Ohms @ 0 psi > 180 ohms @ max pressure

NOTE: The above only applies to modern senders – some older ones “pulse” the signal

Temperature US Standard 450 Ohms @ 100F > 30 Ohms @ 250F

Temperature European 280 Ohms @ 40C > 22 Ohms @ 120C
